Bellingham may be pint-sized in population, but its beer scene is anything but, with several of Washington’s best breweries calling the city home.
Anyone who’s spent time in Bellingham taprooms knows that good beer and good games go hand in hand. From trivia nights to stacks of well-worn board games, game culture is a core part of the brewery experience. That atmosphere inspired Dank & Draft, a fast-playing card game designed for brewery tables and built to highlight Washington beer. The game features real breweries from across the state, including Aslan, El Sueñito, Kulshan and Stone’s Throw.
In Dank & Draft, players build their own taproom lineup by drafting beers from rotating taps and using action cards that steal, spoil, or recycle their way to the top. A full round takes about twenty minutes, which makes it an easy companion for a pint, a patio afternoon, or a stop along a brewery walk.
The visuals take cues from Pacific Northwest design with bold color and playful details. Every part of the project was made in Washington, including graphic design by Handsome Meatball, game design by Rainbow Rabbits Games, and printing and packaging at Seattle Printworks. Keeping the game local felt important for something that celebrates the communities that make these breweries special.
“I love walking into a local pub and seeing people gathered around a table with a deck of cards or a board game,” says Becky Young, creator of Dank & Draft. “You’ll see everything from cribbage and Go to newer favorites like 7 Wonders. My go-to is Azul because it’s small enough for the table and easy to play while having a chat. I wanted to make something that fits naturally on a brewery table. You can play a round in less time than it takes to drink a beer, and it brings out the same friendly energy that makes these spots so much fun.”
Dank & Draft is available at rainbowrabbits.com and at select participating breweries, just in time for the holidays!
