MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Saturday, July 25 · 1–6PM · Greenwood Ave, 65th to 80th

If you live in Phinney Ridge or Greenwood, this one is for you.

This summer I'm organizing something I've wanted to see in this neighborhood for a long time: a free, all-ages, outdoor game event that turns a walk down Greenwood Avenue into an adventure. It's called Greenwood Games, and it's happening July 25th.

The basic idea

Pick up a playbook and spend the afternoon collecting clues, cracking puzzles, and discovering games made right here in Washington, all along Greenwood Ave between 65th and 80th.

How it works

Each participant receives a playbook packed with puzzles that can only be solved by visiting specific spots along the avenue. The clues are posted in business windows, so the walk itself is the adventure. It's part scavenger hunt, part puzzle book, part neighborhood walking tour.

Along the way, participants will also stop at game demo tables hosted at select businesses, where they can meet local game designers and get a chance to play their games firsthand.

Businesses along the route

A growing number of Greenwood Ave businesses have already signed on, including Ridge Tavern, Kym's Kiddie Corner, Doe Bay Winery, Greenwood Hardware, Holy Mountain, Pie Bar, Bella Vita, and The Station.

Games you'll get to play

Beyond the puzzles inside your playbook, these great games (and more to come) will be along the route:

Satanimals by Mega Mint Games. A card drafting game with a delightfully unhinged demonic petting zoo theme. Build your zoo, sacrifice visitors, and obliterate your rivals. Ages 14+.

CharCUTtery by Swoopy Games. A two-player "I cut, you choose" date night card game where you split and select sets of food cards to build the most impressive charcuterie board. Strategic, quick, and endlessly replayable.

Drink! and Far Away: Corporate Espionage by Cherry Picked Games bring two very different energies to the table. Drink! is the perfect icebreaking party game for 21+ crowds. Low commitment, doesn't interrupt the fun, and hilarious from the first round. Far Away: Corporate Espionage is a cooperative planet exploration game where you subvert megacorporations on behalf of your mediocre space government. Yes, really.

WordWeaver Adventures by JBird Games is a family-friendly cooperative word-building game set in a beautiful late 1800s world. Spell words together, pass the tests, and face the Head Teacher in the final exam. Perfect for families with kids.

Friends 'til the End by Season Studios is a rowdy social card game full of shifting alliances, shaky deals, and the occasional backstab from someone you love. Easy to learn, hard to forgive.

Legends of Gadia by Dream Compendium is an indie fantasy card game with stunning Final Fantasy-inspired artwork, created by Burmese-American fantasy author Su Mon Han. Epic strategic gameplay you can finish in 20 minutes.

Trickadee by Coinflip Games. A trick-taking, flock-building card game about spotting birds at your backyard feeder. It flips standard trick-taking strategy on its head with asymmetric suits and a unique follow system. A must for bird lovers and card game fans alike.

And visitors can learn how to play GO with volunteers from the Seattle GO Center — one of the oldest and most strategic games in the world, taught by people who genuinely love it.

Finally, Rainbow Flip & Slide and Dank & Draft by Rainbow Rabbits Games will be on hand.
