Phinney Ridge Mahjongg Guide

In 2024 our little group started to learn and play Mahjongg. We started with American-style, but were overwhelmed by the 100s of possible "combos" on the cards (who wants that much mental overload after a full day of work?). My friend taught me what he could remember from playing Mahjongg in Shanghai with his family, and the basic rules felt much more straight forward, especially for a group of beginners.
And so the unique, and probably-wrong-but-at-least-we-are-consistent "Phinney Mahjongg" rules were born. The rules are a hybrid of classic Hong Kong with a twist of American (we like the Jokers!). We have fun, so that is the most important thing!
